City Escapades with my Lady, some Birthday Balls & the SHIPWRECKS!

When it comes to my birthday, I will admit to being that slightly obnoxious person that makes a really big deal about it.  The way I look at it, I only have three more years until I turn 30 and will begin looking unacceptably ridiculous in exclaiming, "its my birthday".  So why not do it now?!  Carpe mutha-effing-diem. This year I literally celebrated a birthday week!  I have photos from a Dropkick Murphy's show to share with you all next too, so on St.Paddies day/my birthday I went to see an and coming Long Island based band and went where the night took me.  Not only was their so-cal style sound pleasantly lingering, but they were super cool guys as well!  So check out my adventures!

| the MEATBALL SHOP |

New York, NY 10011

For anyone who has never gone, GO!  This is the original, yes not the meatball place, but the Shop! Located in Chelsea and I believe they have a location in Brooklyn, upper east side and the lower east side too, they are serving up the finest balls to your every specification. You choose your type of ball, style of sauce, what you would like with it and whether you would like it under, over or on the side. It's phenomenal!  We sat at the bar and the bartenders were attentive and super nice, would highly recommend this spot!

| the SHIPWRECKS @ GRAMERCY THEATER |

I've been to Gramercy for a few shows, it is a streamline moderne style theater which is from the late art deco period. I love classy old theaters.  Gramercy is an old historic neighborhood as is most of New York City, for those who don't know, and was the set for the Fugees', "Killing me softly" music video. It's a smaller venue, but still offers a little charm.

We went for their St. Patrick's Day show with the Shipwrecks which happens to be my birthday!  The Shipwrecks are a great bunch of guys originally from Long Beach, Long Island that have found the perfect blend of surf rock, reggae, funk, and punk rock with a touch of brass.

They have a sort of contagious feel that just grabs you and ensures you have an awesome night!  Def a band to check if you love the so cal sound, ska, punk or just looking for some fun new jams. Sample and download some of their tracks here.
